Biomedical equipment technicians work on diagnostic machines such as x-ray, MRI, and cat-scan machines, as well as operating room lights. They may advise customers on how to use their machines more efficiently, and how to spot trouble in its early stages. It is possible to be on call to complete emergency repairs. Science and math courses in high school are desirable. Good communication skills, as well as good eyesight and hearing are required as well. Some typical job duties that a biomedical equipment technician may be rquired to perform include the following: Performing preventative maintenance on MRI machines, replacing defective components, circuitboards or wiring, listening to customer's complaints and answering questions, and troubleshooting for other repairers in diagnosing difficult problems.
This sounds like an interesting job. I probably wouldn't want to go into this field though, when there are so many other things I like doing better. Maybe though; you never know, after all.
